Stage 1 - Water Acclimation
Will the student go under water voluntarily?
- If the answer is yes, please see Stage 2
- If the answer is no, this is the stage your child belongs in.
In Stage 1 students will learn:
- Submerge, bob independently
- Front glide assisted, to the wall, 5ft.
- Water exit independently
- Jump, push, turn, grab assisted
- Back float assisted, 10 seconds, recover independently
- Roll assisted
- Front float assisted, 10 seconds, recover independently
- Back lie at wall, 5 ft.
- Swim, float, swim assisted for 10ft.
Stage 2 - Water Movement
Can the student to a front and back float on his or her own?
- If the answer is yes, please see Stage 3.
- If the answer is no, this is the correct level for your child.
In Stage 2 students will learn:
- Submerge, look at object on bottom
- Front glide 10ft.
- Exit water independently
- Jump, push, turn, grab
- Back float for 20 seconds
- Roll
- Front float for 20 seconds
- Back glide for 10ft.
- Tread water for 10 seconds, near wall and exit
- Swim, float, swim for 5yds
Stage 3 - Water Stamina
Can the student swim 10 - 15yds on their front and back?
- If the answer is yes, please see Stage 4.
- If the answer is no, this is the correct level for your child.
In Stage 3 students will learn:
- Submerge retrieve object in chest-deep water
- Swim on front 15yds
- Water exit independently
- Jump, swim, turn, swim, grab 10yds
- Swim on back 15yds
- Roll
- Tread water for one minute and exit
- Swim, float, swim for 25yds
Stroke Development and Mechanics
In Stroke Development and Mechanics students will learn:
- Endurance, any stroke or combination of strokes for 100yds
- Front crawl with a bent arm recovery and flip turn
- Back crawl with pull and flip turn
- Resting stroke, side stroke, or elementary backstroke
- Treading water, various kicks for two minutes
- Breast stroke open turn
- Butterfly simultaneous arm and leg movement
