There's more to the Y than you may think.
The YMCA needs your help. We're not a gym. We're not a recreation facility. We are a charitable organization. As a nonprofit, we rely on the generosity of people like you to support our programs and services. Everything the Y does is in service of making us--as individuals and a community--better. Together, we can achieve so much more.
Give to the Y
The Ben Yaffe Memorial Fund
The Ben Yaffe Memorial Fund has been established to help the youth in our community, specifically in the White Rock and Diamond Hill areas. The Y is committed developing strong leadership skills in a safe environment. The fund will help families in these areas enjoy all that the YMCA has to offer at a reduced membership rate through our scholarship and financial aid process.
Annual Golf Ball Drop and Tournament
Each year the YMCA of Central Virginia hosts a Youth Scholarship Golf Tournament at Boonsboro Country Club. All proceeds raised through this tournament support our Power Scholars Academy.
Thank you to everyone that came out for our annual Youth Scholarship Golf Tournament and Golf Ball Drop. We are so grateful for our sponsors, golfers and supporters.
And congratulations to the grand prize winner of $5,000!
Our next tournament is slated for October 27, 2020 - keep an eye on our social media channels for how you can get involved.
Storming of Thunder Ridge
MANY MANY THANKS to the 854 riders that joined us to celebrate our 12th Anniversary in May 2021 . Registration for the 2022 ride is open – we look forward to seeing you this Spring!
Storming of Thunder Ridge is Lynchburg, Virginia’s only local, fully-supported road cycling event. With the Blue Ridge Mountains as your backdrop, there’s a ride for everyone: 27, 45, 48 (The Mountain Only), 75 and 100 mile options.
The Storming of Thunder Ridge Bicycle Ride is a fund-raiser benefiting the YMCA of Central Virginia’s Annual Fund.
Annual Campaign
The YMCA of Central Virginia's Annual Campaign looks to community members such as yourself to help make a positive difference in the lives of our friends and neighbors.
Through subsidized programs, outreach initiates and community partnerships we bring vital life changing programs to over 3,000 people annually.
Last year we provided over $850,000 in donor supported financial assistance so that everyone in our community could find a safe place to learn, grow and thrive.
If you'd like to help with our Annual Campaign with resources, time or talent, please contact Corey Jeffcoat.
Memorials and Honorariums
Make a donation to the YMCA of Central Virginia in honor of a loved one or friend. Your gift may be made in memory of someone special or in honor of a holiday, anniversary, celebration, or birthday, etc.
A special note of recognition will be sent to the honoree on your behalf.
Face the Forest
The Thomas Jefferson’s Poplar Forest and the Jamerson Family YMCA join forces each year to present the annual Face the Forest Obstacle Course Run.
This popular family-friendly event has become a local tradition, welcoming runners and athletes at varying skill levels from around the region.
The YMCA of Central Virginia and Poplar Forest share a common goal of serving as valuable community resources. Entry fees support Children’s Education Programs at Poplar Forest and the Y’s Annual Support Campaign.
Healthy Kids Day
Summer is the time for kids to get up, get out and grow. But for some kids, exposure to activities that stimulate the body and mind ends with the school year. In fact, research shows that kids are prone to gain weight and fall behind in studies.
During the month of April each year the Y celebrates Healthy Kids Day®, our national initiative to improve the health and well-being of kids.
Be sure to follow us on Facebook for updates on Healthy Kids Day.
Halloween at the Y
Halloween at the Y is an annual, much-loved celebration and day of fun for the whole family! Kids and adults of all ages are invited to welcome fall with a petting zoo, bounce houses, face painting, selfie booth, haunted hallways, live music, DJ, experiments, healthy snacks and more while contributing to the good work the Y is doing in our area.
All proceeds from admission fees support our financial assistance and scholarship programs that assist families, seniors and youth in our community. Details for the 2019 Halloween Party will be posted on our event calendar soon.
Be sure to sign up for emails and text alerts to stay up to date on all Y happenings.
Youth Sports
Through youth sports at the Y kids gain confidence, learn about team work, and develop leadership skills. As a youth sports sponosr you and your organization or business will be recognized as a friend of the Y, and a stronger communities supporter.
Is your child currently a youth sport participant? It is possible that some of the kids on your child's team are recipients of our scholarship fund. Each season our sports teams are given a challenge to raise funds for the upcoming year.
