The YMCA of Central Virginia has announced that they have selected the architect and general contractor to complete the proposed renovations to the Downtown YMCA, effectively transforming it into the Schewel-Clark Family YMCA.
Architect Selection: Local architectural firm, Dominion Seven, has been selected as the project architect. The YMCA of Central Virginia has a long and successful history of partnering together, including architect Blair Smith's involvement on the Fauber Architect team that completed the Jamerson Family YMCA.
Contractor Selection: Local contractor Jamerson-Lewis Construction company was recently selected as the General Contractor. Jamerson-Lewis Construction Company and Dominion Seven will be working hand-in-hand in the design-build of the Downtown YMCA transformation to ensure the most efficient and cost-effective design and construction plan possible.
In the fall of 2021, the YMCA announced the Building for a Better Us Capital Campaign, embarking on the most ambitious fundraising project of the organization's 166-year history. Thanks to the generous support of over 100 key community leaders, Board members, and staff, over $7.9 million toward the $11.5 million campaign goal has been raised thus far.
YMCA of Central Virginia CEO Jay Parker said he is grateful for the outpouring of community support they have seen so far. "We would not be here without the support and commitment of the many community members dedicated to designing a YMCA for all."
Parker also said that everyone is invited to get involved, "While we have much more work ahead of us to meet our ambitious campaign goal, we are confident we will get there. Today's YMCA includes everyone, regardless of income, background, or social status, so we invite everyone to get involved by giving to the campaign or sharing the news with others."
More information, including floor plans, key features of the new Shewel-Clark Family YMCA, and an updated leadership donor list, is available on the YMCA's website.
