WE'RE MOVING INTO PHASE ONE!

We are thrilled to share an exciting update regarding the future plans for the Schewel-Clark Family YMCA. As we continue our journey toward revitalizing this essential community center, we are pleased to announce that we are moving forward with Phase One of our renovation project.

Phase One – Enabling Work: The Foundation Step

Phase One marks the crucial foundation step in our renovation process. Here's a breakdown of what Phase One entails:

  • Build New Mechanical & Electrical Room: We will construct a new mechanical and electrical room to house utilities, ensuring efficient operations and safety.

  • Pool Addition: A new pool addition will be built to accommodate the Aquatics Director, pool storage, and steam/saunas, enhancing our aquatic facilities.

  • Pool Improvements: Essential repairs and upgrades will be made to bring our pools up to code and ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all members.

  • Preparation for Phase Two: The building will be prepared for Phase Two work, laying the groundwork for future enhancements.

We recognize that Phase One is vital for setting the stage for subsequent phases to proceed smoothly. By addressing critical infrastructure and facility improvements, we are creating a strong foundation upon which to build a vibrant and modern YMCA that meets the needs of our community.

The YMCA of Central Virginia is embarking on the most ambitious undertaking in our storied 166-year history. The successful completion of the Building for a Better US® Capital Campaign will completely transform our current Downtown YMCA into the new Schewel-Clark Family YMCA.

This "Y of the future" will provide an open, welcoming environment with critical new spaces for community health programs, youth education and support, individual and group wellness, and family programming.

On January 31st, Dominion Seven Architects, represented by Jason Burger, and Jamerson Lewis Construction Company, represented by William Cook, have unveiled captivating new renderings that showcase the potential vision for the future Schewel-Clark YMCA.

"Candidly, it wasn't until we were approached to make a leadership gift to the capital campaign that I became aware of the full impact the Y has in Lynchburg. They are about much more than just health and fitness. We were very impressed with the staff and the various programs they provide."
