Member Handbook
Welcome to Your Membership Handbook
At the YMCA of Central Virginia, membership is more than access to facilities—it’s your gateway to a community dedicated to fostering growth, wellness, and connection. This handbook is your guide to making the most of your YMCA experience, with everything you need to know about our programs, policies, and benefits. Whether you’re here to improve your health, try something new, or build lifelong friendships, we’re here to support you every step of the way.
Caregiver Policy
At the Y, we understand that some members may need a caregiver while in the facility. Caregivers are allowed but must remain with the member at all times and may not participate in activities or use equipment.
To ensure proper documentation, caregivers must register as a Community Member at no charge. This membership is for non-recurring program participants, volunteers, guests/caregivers and spectators. Before using the facility, caregivers must visit the Welcome Center to provide a photo ID, have their photo taken, confirm their information in our system, and sign a Community Member waiver. All Community Members will undergo an automatic background check through RAPTOR during the registration process.
Live-in caregivers may be added to a family membership, while non-live-in caregivers cannot. Those wanting full member benefits are encouraged to join separately.
Caregivers are responsible and are required to directly supervise the individual they are assisting and must follow all YMCA policies, including remaining within arm’s reach in the pool when assisting young children or individuals with special needs.
