Where Confidence Begins

Youth sports at the YMCA of Central Virginia are designed to keep kids active, help them develop healthy habits, and build essential life skills. From soccer to basketball and everything in between, our programs focus on fun, teamwork, and personal growth. Whether learning the basics or refining skills, every child gets the chance to play and thrive in a supportive, non-competitive environment.

Active Bodies, Strong Minds Youth Sports Programs

Fall & Spring Soccer

Ages: 3 - 13

LOCATIONS:
Jamerson Family YMCA

YMCA fall and spring soccer programs provide age-specific, progressive levels where every child plays in a safe and fun environment. Kids learn teamwork, fair play, and improve their soccer skills while building confidence and making friends. Parents are encouraged to volunteer as coaches and helpers.

Basketball

Ages: 3 - 13

LOCATIONS:
Jamerson Family YMCA

YMCA basketball is perfect for newcomers and return players. Kids learn ball control, shooting techniques, and game rules, with a focus on teamwork and sportsmanship. Our supportive environment helps players of all levels build skills and confidence. Parents can volunteer as coaches.

T-Ball

Ages: 3 - 6

LOCATIONS:
Jamerson Family YMCA

Youth T-Ball at the YMCA introduces the basics of baseball in a fun, non-competitive setting. Kids practice catching, throwing, and hitting off a tee while making friends and learning sportsmanship. It’s all about fun and building confidence on the field.

Jiu-Jitsu

Ages: 7 - 12

LOCATIONS:
Jamerson Family YMCA

Our Jiu-Jitsu program offers kids ages 7-12 a chance to learn self-defense, build confidence, and get fit. With expert coaching, kids develop discipline and physical skills in a fun, supportive environment. First class is free—come give it a try!

LY Swim Team

LOCATIONS:

The LY Swim Team offers competitive swimming for all levels. Swimmers improve their technique, endurance, and teamwork while competing in local and national meets. Coaches focus on personal growth, sportsmanship, and building lasting friendships.

YOUTH SPORTS FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

2025 Season Dates: January 6th – February 15th

  • Registration: November 13th – December 15th
  • Cost: Members $52, Non-Members $70 (Jersey required)
  • Practices: Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday, 5-6 PM or 6-7 PM
  • Games: Saturdays (Tots play on Saturdays only)

2025 Season Dates: May 31st – June 28th

  • Registration: April 14th – May 16th
  • Non-Member Registration: April 21st – May 16th
  • Cost
    • Members $45
    • Non-Members $60
  • Equipment: Players need a glove. Additional gear recommendations can be provided by coaches
  • Financial assistance is available.
  • Soccer runs during fall and spring seasons. Check registration pages for dates.
  • Cost: Varies by age and membership. Financial assistance is available.
  • Equipment: Players need shin guards, cleats, and a soccer ball. Jerseys are required and must be purchased separately.
  • Classes: Kids (ages 5-12) on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 5:30 PM; Teens/Adults at 6:30 PM
  • Cost: Members $100/month, Non-Members $110/month (Sibling discount available)
  • No contracts or sign-up fees!

  • The LY Swim Team is a year-round competitive program for youth swimmers.
